About Us

STARBASE is a DOD-sponsored activity hosted by the Air National Guard at McEntire Joint National Guard Base. STARBASE students (fifth graders) participate in an inquiry-based curriculum with “hands-on/minds-on” experiential activities in the fields of science, math, technology, and engineering. They will have an opportunity to see how these academic areas are important as they interact through on-base excursions to various work centers on McEntire JNGB. Teamwork is a constant theme as students work together to explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate concepts. We strive to make sure we cover many of the 5th grade science and math state standards in our 25 hours of instruction.

Also this year we are excited to introduce STARBASE 2.0 at Southeast Middle School. This Club based program targets sixth graders.

Our Mission

The mission of STARBASE Swamp Fox is to raise the interest and improve the knowledge and skills of program participants (focusing on at-risk youth) in math, science, and technology by exposing them to an exciting, dynamic, technological environment and the positive role models found in military organizations.

Our Vision

The vision of STARBASE Swamp Fox is to build our program into the leading STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education program in South Carolina on the elementary education level and to become one of the leading STARBASE programs nationwide.

Our Purpose

The purpose of STARBASE Swamp Fox is to excite students about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We strive to teach them how to perform on a high level, how to work effectively in teams, and how to avoid common pitfalls which negatively affect performance.
